The 2016-2017 Mane Event acapella group had their first performance of the year this past Tuesday, Nov. 15.

The concert was held at St. John’s Episcopal Church and doubled as a fundraiser for the chorus department. Multiple Leon chorus groups performed alongside Mane Event, including Tempo, Cantabile, Vivace, Madrigals and Melodears.

“I love performing with this group of people,” sophomore Tyler Jones said. “We’ve been working really hard and it felt good to see it pay off.”

The all-girl group, Cantabile, performed a medley of Disney songs while dressed as their favorite Disney characters. Mane Event performed various pop songs, including “Somebody to Love” by Queen.

This year’s Mane Event group includes four freshman which is very rare. Last year only one freshman made the group.

“The freshman are some of the most talented people I know,” Jones said. “They are all so intelligent and it’s no surprise that they made the group.”

The soloists at the concert were Morgan Guse, Noah Fuentes, Cooper Smith, Erin Hill, Grace Lengacher and Hannah Prasse.

At the end of the concert, all of the chorus groups came together to sing the Leon Alma Mater.

The next Mane Event concert will be at the Downtown Winter Festival on Dec. 3 at 4 pm.
