Volleyball players Emilee Etter and Jordyn Goracke are signing letters of intent on Friday, Dec. 1, in the gym lobby at 2:15 p.m.

Etter is signing with Oglethorpe University to play for the Stormy Petrels in Atlanta. Goracke is signing with Santa Fe College to play for the Saints in Gainesville.

Etter has a 3.8 GPA and plans to major in digital design and marketing while at Oglethorpe.

“We are honored to share her with Oglethorpe University in Atlanta,” volleyball Coach Angie Strickland said. “And I know Coach [Joseph] Goodson is beyond ecstatic to have her for the next four years in Atlanta.”

Goracke has been both a starter and a captain on the varsity team for the past two years, helping the Lady Lions reach the state semifinals last season and the state finals this season.

Goracke plans to go to medical school after receiving her undergraduate degree at Santa Fe College.

“Jordyn has been the centerpiece of our program,” said Strickland. “… Her passion for the game affects everyone and she continues to be the heartbeat of Leon Volleyball. Nick Cheronis at Santa Fe is very lucky to have this caliber player coming into his program.”

Other than playing volleyball, Etter enjoys volunteering with local organizations such as Westminster Oaks, Leon County Humane Society and the Down Syndrome Association.

Etter also participates in other activities at Leon like National Honor Society, Lion’s United, Coral Club and Student Government.

“Emilee has been the rock of our team this season… we have admired her character, poise, community service, and the gift of caring for others,” said Strickland. “She will truly be missed as outside hitter that brought hard work, dedication, and positivity to the court.”

Goracke attributes her success to the support of her family, coaches and teammates.

Goracke has volunteered with the homeless shelter, Westminster Oaks, Davita Dialysis, helped raise money for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Cancer Unit. She also participates in the Science National Honors Society.
