Project Graduation: A final send-off to seniors
With the school year coming to an end, Leon students are making their last days at Leon special. Those who will be returning for another school year in the fall are staying up late, cramming for exams, and those who will graduate find new adventures at Leon before they walk across the stage at graduation.
From Senior Skip Day, to the recent Grad Bash, seniors are spending their final days as a lion, together with friends.
One of those events is Project Graduation, the senior only party held after the graduation ceremony at the Civic Center. This is a tradition for the graduates of Leon to spend one last night together before moving on to the new chapter of their lives.
“It’s the last chance that they can truly be Leon Lions,” said Fernando Rodriguez, head of the Public Relations Committee for Project Graduation.
The event will be held on May 28th, from 11pm to 4am the next morning at the FSU Leach Center.
Students check in after the graduation ceremony is complete and spend the night at the Leach Center alongside their friends. This years theme is Lion Luau.
“We wanted to plan a party that the seniors could remember,” Rodriguez said.
“A luau is fun. You dance, eat good food, and enjoy yourself. That’s what we wanted for the seniors.”
In lieu of the theme, there will be swimming, volleyball, casino, massages, and the annual senior challenge, a class favorite. Leon alumni John Rains, better known by his stage name, DJ Make It Rains, will be providing music for Project Graduation.
“We’re excited to bring back a Leon lion, someone whose a part of the family,” Rodriguez said.
Along with these activities, door prizes such as gift cards, video games and cash will be items to win. Food for the event will be provided by sponsors, such as Beef O’ Brady’s, Whataburger and Pepsi products.
