Next year Leon will be welcoming yet another new club to the ICC list. Sophomore Aniya Scarlett has started Leon’s first medical interest club, which will be officiated next fall. The name of the club is the Leon Pride Healthcare club, and it is a club designed to inform and educate students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.
“I personally want to go into the medical field, and so do many of my friends. I really think this club will help us really decide if we want to go into this field.” Scarlett said.
Scarlett plans on having first aid activities, there will be opportunities to shadow local doctors at Tallahassee Memorial hospital and at clinics around town, and going out to be involved in medical events and opportunities in the community.
Scarlett hopes to accomplish an end of the year trip to Shands hospital in Gainesville, which is the biggest hospital in Florida.
“I just want us to all experience what being a doctor is life, it will help us determine if this is really what we want to do for the rest of the our lives.” Scarlett said.
The club will be partnered with TCC, North Florida women’s care, TMH, and Capital Regional hospital, for supplies, shadowing opportunities and guest speakers. Scarlett plans to have a guest speaker at least every other meeting next year.
The club is open to anyone, but the applicants must meet the qualities of at least a 2.5 GPA, and show excellent academic integrity.
Meetings will begin in the fall of next school year.
