Senior Caroline Kirk has had the opportunity to be this year’s Student Body President. Kirk has been a part of the volleyball team and student government association since she first started as a freshman. She is also a member of the Pierian Honor Society.

As a senior, she has had to look towards the future a lot this year, but Kirk enjoys living in the moment and giving whatever she is doing at the moment her full attention.

“I put all my energy into everything I’m doing,” Kirk said. “I give it my full focus.”

Kirk has been a very active member in the community for many years and still has the ability to fit all sorts of activities into her everyday schedule. She has excellent time management which allows her to enjoy everything she wants to do. Kirk said that with everything she does, she still manages to go to bed around 10pm every night. Even with taking three advanced placement classes, Newspaper and SGA, she makes time for it all.

Kirk has spent a lot of time throughout her high school career in the Lion’s Den. Kirk was a varsity volleyball player three out of her four years and on junior varsity her freshman year. She has dedicated a lot of time and energy into volleyball but has decided to end her career. Her last game was in November.

Kirk has decided to not continue her volleyball career because there was not a college that was interested in her enough and that she found interested in. In February, her options were Georgetown University and University of Virginia. Kirk has committed to the University of Virginia and will start in the fall of 2017.

It took Kirk a while until she was fully comfortable in her own skin. In fourth grade her best friend, Julia Chodyla, helped her find her voice. They started at Trinity Catholic School together in kindergarten and have been best friends since.

According to Kirk, Chodyla does not lack any self-confidence. Chodyla loves to dance, be spunky and sassy and do whatever makes her feel happy. Kirk is confident in front of groups, big and small, because Chodyla was there for her.

Kirk has done more than just participate in events held at school. She has had the courage to start up some of her own campaigns and events. Her first one was Positively Post-It, which she started her sophomore year with Elyse Thompson.

It started when there had been social media problems between students at Leon. The two girls were finding many anti-bully campaigns but nothing that was pro-positivity. That’s how they came up with Positively Post-It.

The “Post-It” means posting it on social media and using post-it notes. This has grown from a SGA project into a national campaign that Kirk hopes will continue to grow.

Another thing Kirk has started is the “Brown Bag Lunch.” The purpose of this is to get students from the school to come, eat together and talk about topics going on around the world. Kirk believes it is a great way to get people who would not normally converse to get the chance to. Kirk loves the idea because she gets to meet so many new people and create friendships.

Kirk was also the head of Leon’s Dance Marathon this year. Dance Marathon raised $22,301 for the Children’s Miracle Network this year. Kirk put lots of effort into this year’s Dance Marathon.

This year she had someone special that she was dancing for. Mrs. Fisher’s son, Marshal Fisher, has been facing osteosarcoma cancer, and so Kirk was dancing for him.

Caroline is not the only Kirk at Leon, with her brother Teddy being a sophomore and her sister Kaki in the freshmen class.

“Caroline has made me have an even better experience at Leon,” Kaki said. “Seeing her at the pep rallies and going crazy just made me go crazy. It makes me so happy that she’s my sister.”

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. Nevertheless think
about if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this website could definitely be one of the most
beneficial in its field. Superb blog!
