Leon’s flag football team kicked off their season March 8 with a 19-0 victory over East Gadsden.

The win came as a slight surprise to some of the players because of all the new players on the team.

“The team just clicked like we had all been playing together for years,” senior Patricia Prather said. “It was kind of surprising considering that it’s a pretty new group and we’ve only been practicing for two weeks.

“Winning 19-0 was the best feeling especially since we have these new coaches and players,” Prather said. ” I think if we play the rest of the season like we did tonight, we’ll go far.”

Before the season started, the team welcomed their new head coach, Justin Kurlander. Prather admits to being a little apprehensive about having a new coach, but is excited about the team’s potential with Kurlander as coach.

“He’s a great coach, he’s really organized and I have a lot of respect for him because we are not an easy team to coach,” Prather said. “Since he’s a new coach there is this new vibe in practices, but it’s a good vibe.”

This win has given the team a boost of confidence and they are excited for what the rest of the season brings.

“Kurlander has done an amazing job so far, our whole team is looking good and I think if we keep up this positive attitude it will be a good season,” Prather said.
