Senior Gibson Howard put on the annual Canned Food Drive for Second Harvest, collecting over 2,800 cans, which surpassed the initial goal of collecting 2,000 cans.

The drive took place from Feb. 13 to March 3. To encourage students to bring in cans, they would be allowed to be released early from fourth period to go to lunch on Friday, March 3 if they received a pass from their first period teacher for bringing in 10 or more cans.

There was also a competition among clubs and first period classes to encourage students to bring in cans as well. Mrs. Towey’s first period won, receiving a Chick-Fil-A breakfast party and Dr. Sullivan’s first period came in second and they will get donuts. National English Honor Society won out of the clubs and they are receiving a pizza party.

The cans collected will be picked on from the school to be dropped off at Second Harvest on Friday, March 10.

“I think it was super successful,” Howard said. ” It was a little slow to start out with, but people liked the incentive of the 10 cans, and really brought a ton of cans the last couple of days. I’m happy with the results.”
