Leon students are once again pulling together to benefit a cause.

In light of the tragic earthquakes and resulting chaos in Haiti, Leon’s French National Honor Society, Anchor Club, Key Club and Model United Nations are among the groups of people donating time and raising money to help those that have lost their homes and loved ones in Haiti.

FNHS’s goal is to raise $3,000 to give to Doctors Without Borders.

, or Doctors Without Borders, is an organization of doctors that gives basic medical care to those in need.

FNHS put donation envelopes in fourth period classrooms and is allowing teachers to ask for money as they see fit.

The money donated from Leon to Doctors Without Borders will go directly into a special account for the organization.

At this point, FNHS has raised close to one thousand dollars, and hopes to continue inspiring generosity in Leon’s student body.

February 5 is the final day for Leon students to submit donations to Doctors Without Borders.

Model U.N. intends to donate the money it raises to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. UNICEF has been providing Haiti with water purification tablets, rehydration salts, kitchen kits, drinking water and water bladders, which can each hold between 5,000 and 10,000 liters.

Other clubs have sold food items to raise funds. Anchor held bake sales Jan. 26-28 after sixth and seventh periods. Model U.N. sold donuts before school the week of Jan. 25.

Leon is aiming to uphold its longstanding tradition of being active and generous in the local and global commununity.
