The Leon JV football team fell to the Florida High Seminoles 19-14 on Thursday night. The game was played at Bobby Benson field located on Leon’s campus.
The Lions jumped to an early 14-0 lead in the first half. Fullback Vincent Mulvaney scored both touchdowns, taking handoffs from quarterback Sam Myhre.
But the Lions were unable to maintain the lead and hold off a late second-half rally by the Seminoles. Mental mistakes and turnovers resulted in disaster for the team. The Seminoles scored 19 unanswered points and halted a final …

Where do I start?
Isn’t there a typical saying about “Time flies when you’re having fun?” Well in this case it is the truth. It seems like only yesterday when I mailed out your welcome back letters, but in reality a whole school year has transpired, and we are now nearing the end.
As I reflect on the year, I am drawn to the contents of that first senior letter. In that letter I told you that the success of this school year would not be determined by me or any other …

My junior year has been hard. I slept an average of just six hours per night. My work load was exhausting. The extracurricular activities were beyond demanding.
Now, the school year is finally winding down. Course request forms are complete. Advanced placement exams are over. The seniors are leaving. The summer is approaching.

However, there are a few annoyances that need to be addressed.
These problems are aggravating. They cause worry. They continue to irritate me.
But they can be easily fixed. Once fixed, …

How did you find out that you would be speaking at graduation?

Ashira Morris: I received an e-mail from Mrs. Crews.

He started running as a freshman and has never stopped.
Sophomore Ben McMahon is a member of the long distance track team and the only sophomore to advance to the regional round.
McMahon runs in the 3200 meter race, which is approximately two miles. His best time in this event came not long ago when he ran that distance in ten minutes and eleven seconds.
A speedy 10:11 is pretty impressive for someone who has had trouble with his shins through the whole season.
“We just do what Leon does best,” McMahon said. “Just …

As 31 Leon students prepared to host their French counterparts on Saturday, April 17, airports across northern Europe were being closed down due to the erupting volcano in Iceland that began to spew ash and silicate on March 20 and then again on April 15.
These two eruptions caused hundreds of flight cancellations throughout Europe, including the French exchange students’ flight, because of the danger the ash posed to plane engines.
However, the students were able to fly out of Paris a week later on April 24.
Madame Clarke had been planning …

English has always been a favorite subject for Marty Towey, whether she is studying, applying or teaching it.
In school, Towey’s favorite teachers and classes involved English.
“When I was in college, I always found myself coming back to it,” Towey said.
She has been teaching at Leon for seven years. Towey teaches tenth grade English II. She teaches both general and honors-level classes.
In the past Towey has taught yearbook and reading classes at Bainbridge High School from 1991 to 1996. Then, for a few years, Towey taught logic and semantics at …
